We had a stinky tour at the Pinellas County Solid Waste complex. We learned all about the sprawling complex and all the neat things they do with trash.
The Waste To Energy process was cool. It was sort of like the coal burning process but with your trash instead!
We boarded an Astro Skate bus and toured the complex. I kept having to hide behind Mom’s arm because I insisted it was STINKY everywhere we visited!
This place was stinky from inside the bus. I could tell there was trash around…someplace. It must therefor be stinky!
It wasn’t quite as stinky at the scales entrance. I liked looking at the readouts to see how much each truck weighed.
They had claw trucks to help remove some of the trash from some cars. Most people just tossed it out onto a sorting platform.
The tire pile was awesome! It was just a little stinky! They chip up the tires and use them to create really hot fires for burning the wet trash.
They also use chippers to chip up trees to make mulch.Â
We had to wait a bit but were able to ride the bus up to the truck dumping area.
This was 100% STINKY! STINKY STINKY STINKY!
The claw was STINKY! My nose was getting sore from pinching it so much.
Thank goodness we are back outside, it is still STINKY!
There were lots of trucks lines up to go up and dump. Then they burn the trash to make energy.
Twas a fun day. I am so glad we are heading to the car to drive away from all this STINKY! I really enjoyed the tour. It probably really wasn’t that STINKY, but I really played into it.Â
