We loaded up the motorhome, Luna, and drove up the state to Micanopy to Paynes Prairie Preserve. We parked and set up the site and headed to Satchels’s in Gainesville for dinner. Their pizza is amazing and we love to explore the lot and buildings.
After dinner we headed over to the UF Bat Barns. We got there a bit early but had great spots to see the bats.
There are two huge bat houses now.
They estimate 300,000 bats in residents currently. At dusk they all began to fly out and over our heads. Mom got peed on!
We spent several lovely quiet days at the campground. We had a great site. We enjoyed hiking, animals watching and campfires.
We went back up to Gainesville on New Years Day to go to the Florida natural History Museum and Butterfly gardens.
We learned a lot about the “first” civilization in Florida.
The butterflies are always a huge hit for all of us.
The weather started to shift and it was drippy and dreary. We sat by the campfire with frisbees to stay dry.
We opted in the morning to call it a trip and head home before the bad storms and rain came in. I zonked out on Mom on the way home in the motorhome. I like this traveling in style stuff!
