We are settled in Gallup, New Mexico for a few days. We will take small trips to other areas and use this as home base. We started out today exploring the town after an oil change in the truck. We visited a flea market that was mainly hand crafted goods, fresh made native food and junk in trunks.
Mom ordered a frybread and insisted that I would love it. Â They were made fresh my local Navajo people. They only cost $1!!!
We topped it with cinnamon, sugar and honey. It was bigger than my head! YUMMY!
Next we drove out to the Navajo Nation in Arizona (just across the border) and learned about the suffering the Native Americans went through. There was an excellent exhibit about the history and Long Walk. They also had a small zoo with amines that the tribe holds close.
They had an albino raccoon.
A bobcat.
A coyote.
Mexican wolves, MY FAVORITE!
We explored inside something called a Forked Hogan.Â
We wrapped up with owls and headed back to town for dinner.
We have a favorite restaurant already. Mom and Dad get really good New Mexican food. Mom is loving all the chili peppers and Dad is loving the unique flavors and the sapodillas! The place is called Genaro’s in Historic Gallup. If you are ever in the area we highly suggest it!
When we got home Mom started laundry and everyone pitched in to tidy up and dust the camper. I was really good at the low spots. I told Mom that I had to use FIVE towels to get underneath clean. Mom didn’t think it was that dirty!
A quick tour of the travel trailer for those that haven’t seen it. We have bunk beds in the back next to the bathroom. A sink and medicine chest and cabinet outside the bathroom. The dining room table can collapse to make a bed. We only set up the table when we will be a few days in one place. The sofa (which has the laundry bin right now… normally that is stored away under Mom and Dad’s bed). The sofa also folds down to make a queen sized bed.
Mom and Dad have a queen bed in the front of the camper. They even have a door!
The kitchen is rather large. We have a double basin sink, a nice stove, over and microwave. There is also a decent sized fridge and freezer. The camper is spacious and lots of light comes in. We even have 2 skylights (bathroom and kitchen).
Overall we are staying pretty tidy and neat since we have to stow everything when we travel down the road. Mom buzzes around inside and Dad outside to make sure everything is running smoothly. Mom isn’t even pinching her nose at emptying black and grey water now!
