Up and out super early in the morning. We were ready to GO!
Along the way (11.5 hours of driving-620 miles) we played on our iPads, read comics and looked out the window to pass the time. We encountered out first hill in North Florida.
We arrived safely in New Orleans in the late afternoon. We settled in at the campground, French Quarter RV, and got all hooked up. Dad dropped us downtown near Bourbon Street and parked the truck back at the campground and walked down. We had a much needed meal at Felix’s Oysters. I had a HUGE grilled cheese sandwich and tons of crackers! YUMMY.
As we walked downtown after dinner we found a spot where we had taken a photo on our last visit. We have grown up a lot!
We wandered down to Cafe Du Monde and had beignets for desert. I destroyed the beignets but felt they just weren’t what I remembered so I ate the tops and powdered sugar only. We walked a bit and then Mom hailed a cab that took a cab back to the campground, it isn’t a far walk but we were told take a bad after dark.
The next morning we were up early and walked back downtown to the French Quarter where we had beignets again. This time at a place called New Orleans Famous Beignets and Coffee. They were WAY better than Cafe Du Monde. I had two plates full of beignets and powdered sugar.
No one was getting my beignets today!
I even ate all the powdered sugar at the bottom of the tray.
There were thousands of runners running a 10K and we needed to cross the road. We had to play Crossy Road (an app I enjoy on the iPad) to safely get across.
We took a quick trip into the National Park Services building to knock out a Junior Ranger badge.
We passed some time looking at the street cars, Mississippi River and Jackson Square.
Next up was a tour call French QuarTOUR Kids. We had a lovely guide named Jill who taught us all about the history of New Orleans. We learned a lot able the time period as well. We talked about the history of trading white gold (sugar) and cotton. We leaved about slavery, medicine and how a girl gets a husband! I actually raised my hand a few times to answer questions. I liked learning about everything except the historical medical practices, leaches are just gross!
We wandered back to the campground and drove to Hansen’s Sno-Bliz, our favorite place for snow-cones. We were first in line when they opened at 1pm. When waiting we ran into the same couple we were next to in line the prior night at Felix’s! How funny! I had a bubble gum flavored but after all the beignets that morning I was stuffed and couldn’t eat it so I gave it to B.
After sugar for lunch (snow cones) walked back downtown for dinner Mothers’s Restaurant. I had pancakes while Mom and Dad had Po-Boys. Mom LOVES fried oysters!
Everyone was tuckered after dinner but we stopped at looked in some shops along our path back to the campground. I have decided that I want to collect pins along the trip. They are small and inexpensive and my souvenir budget will last MUCH longer this way!
We even walked by the cemetery where they berries the yellow fever victims.
Next drive is about 9 hours to San Antonio!
