We started out our morning with a 2.5 hour hike up Beech Mountain with a Acadia NP ranger guiding us. We learned a lot about lichen, ferns and other plants.
We were attentive and soaked up the knowledge.
I complained that I was cold all morning but I was quickly shedding the layers of clothing.
The walk ended at the top of the mountain at the fire tower. We hiked the quick way down and it took only 15 minutes.
These cool rocks in the mark were created by when the glaciers moved. If you make a straight line through all of them they point to where the glacier ended.
Mom met us in the parking lot with lunch and we headed to Bar Harbor for a cruise of Frenchman Bay around a 115′ 4 sailed schooner.
When on board we quickly took a seat on the green benches and listened to the park ranger explain about animals in the area. He was a bird expert so he had a great knowledge of the local birds.
Everyone took a shot at hoisting the sails, except me. I was a bit too small this time. Here is a photo of Mom helping with the sails.
I was a total popsicle the entire trip and just snuggled into Mom’s lap and relaxed.
B was being mean and teasing me because I was so cold.
The sails were up and boy were we cruising fast!
More of that teasing!
We didn’t see much wildlife but we did see a few birds. We learned a lot about the harbor and how the ships works. I really liked watching the young captain named Jimmy as he raced around to secure riggings and try to train the greenhorns for the season.
After the cruise we drove the Park Loop. Most things were closed but we got a good overview of the area. We did drive up Cadillac Mountain and take some great photos at the top!
